Baaaaah. I Am A Sheep.
I'm following the crowd! :D That's right ladies... here's my 2006 Holiday Edition of Getting To Know Your Friends!!
Your Name: Amanda :)
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot chocolate with marshymallows. Cause egg nog is gross.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Wrap of course! Though we don't get presents from "Santa" anymore, because my parents like to systematically destroy my childhood.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Colored on the tree, white on the house. But not blinking. I do not like seizures.
4. Do you hang mistletoe? Nope. Though dammit, I should. I need some kissage. ;)
5. When do you put your decorations up? Usually it's the beginning of December... now we wait till I get back from school to do it. Well. Kinda. Last year my mom didn't put up a tree because nobody would help, but this year I'm going to secretly do it myself. BWUAHA. Hopefully they'll like it. :)
6. What is your favorite holiday dish? My grandma's spritz cookies. She used to make them every year... except that she passed away around Thanksgiving last year. My sister and I knew that my dad would be kinda sad, since it would be the first Christmas without Grandma, so we made the cookies from her recipe. When him and Mom came home and saw that we had made her cookies, they cried. That's one of my favorite holiday memories, despite the bittersweet tone to it.
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child: Well, I have a lot. The above is one of the tops, but I also loved last Christmas in which my parents bought me a print of Starry Night for my room. I always said, since I was little, that I wanted Starry Night to hang over my bed. And they made that dream come true. I also love the Christmas that I was six or seven, and Mom and G-Ma took us kids to see Santa. We have it on tape... Abby freaked out, since she hated men and strangers, Jake was just a baby and he just layed there all adorable grinny baby like, and I was the fucking awesomest kid ever. I asked for a Nickelodeon Colorwrite, and dammit I GOT IT. Word.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I think I was like seven... my mom sat me down since some kids had told me that Santa didn't exist, and I was sad. She told me that while Santa may not exist as a person, his spirit lived on in the children and parents all over the world who believed in him and wanted to bring happiness. In my heart of hearts, I like to believe that Santa does exist... in our hearts.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Yep, always. And usually I end up opening some clothing gift or something... which sucks, because I always try to open a book so then I'll have something to do that night. What can I say, I read a metric ton as a child. Still do, heh. Got like three books I'm currently reading. :)
10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? We have colored lights strung from top to bottom, and it's covered with all our ornaments... the crappy paper and cardboard ones that we made as kids, the memento ones with "Baby's First Christmas", etc... and my personal favorites, the gag ones, with the funny reindeer and the Star Trek Enterprise shuttle that when you push a button, Spock's voice comes out. My dad is a bit of a Trekkie... Live long and prosper!
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? FUCKING LOVE SNOW. For Christmas. But it can get tiresome pretty quickly. But when there is a fresh snowfall, and the air is still, and under the streetlamps the snow glistens like a million bits of glitter... I love it all over again. Like Lorelai Gilmore, I live for the first real snowfall.
12. Can you ice skate? No. :( I've always wanted to, but never gotten a chance to learn. ONE DAY!
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? That's so difficult, since I love every thing I've ever been given... I think my favorite gifts are the ones made for me. The jewelry my mom has made, the scarf she crocheted for me... My grandma was crocheting a blanket for me and died before she could finish it. We haven't found the unfinished blanket among her stuff yet, but if we do, and I can get it completed, I think that would be my favorite present ever.
14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? The sense of family. So many times, I feel like I'm the only one who really likes being around my family and having that togetherness. Considering that I'm the most emotionally connected in my family, sometimes I have to turn to my family of friends to get that holiday spirit. Sometimes I swear my family is emotionally dead inside. :P
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Christmas cookies with milk.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Watching Rudolf and the Grinch, etc. (BUMBLE!!!)
17. What tops your tree? An angel currently, though we've had a star before.
18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? I do like getting gifts, but nothing makes me happier than to see someone else be happy from a gift I've given. I'm the worst person to give gifts though, as I always want to give it the second I've purchased it for the person. I hate waiting. :P
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? I don't think I can choose... though I love the traditional religious songs. That's the one part of my Catholic upbringing that I will never abandon. Though currently I can't stop listening to O Holy Night (the version played on Studio 60) and Carol of the Bells.
20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? Yum. :)
